What is the DFW Black History & Legacy Tour?
This is an educational and entertaining tour that explores the often-overlooked history of African American communities in Dallas-Fort Worth. We visit over twenty significant sites that were instrumental in the development of the city, from the first settlements after the Civil War to pivotal locations in the Civil Rights Movement. Our goal is to share the rich legacy and contributions of Black pioneers in Dallas-Fort Worth.
How long does the tour last?
The standard tour is approximately three to four hours long. This allows us to cover a wide range of historical sites and stories without feeling rushed. Private and custom tours can be adjusted to fit your specific schedule.
What historical sites will we visit?
The itinerary traces the path of the African American journey in Dallas. Key sites often include the Freedmen’s Cemetery Memorial in the historic State Thomas neighborhood, the Juanita Craft House, the Moorland Branch YMCA (now home to Dallas Black Dance Theatre), and areas significant to the formation of Deep Ellum and the southern Dallas migration.
